Notes |
- Eulogy: Nylene Floy Welsh (nee Day) of Brampton, Ontario, passed away September 6, 2012 of a stroke, at the age of 93. Nylene was the 7th child in her family of eight - seven sisters and one brother. She grew up in Coronach, SK attending school, church, enjoying ball games, curling, and especially tennis. Her favorite subject at school was French. Some considered her a "tom boy" because she was one of the first girls in Coronach to wear pants. She told the other boys that her name was Jack to break the ice and get brother Marvin in on the circle. Her father nicknamed her Todie because she was the only one in the family with dark hair. Growing up, Nylene learned a lot from both her parents. Nylene's dad delivered cargo to the local store, as well as taking care of the farm. Nylene's mother was a midwife, and looked after patients in their home, under the care of Dr. Welsh. Everyone in the family helped take care of the patients and their newborns as they came and went. Even with long walks to and from school, she managed to help her mom, dad and siblings with chores like cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Dr. Welsh, a good friend of the family, introduced Todie to his son Don. Don and Nylene were married Nov 17, 1939 in Scobey, Montana, and continued on living in Coronach for one year, until Don got a job at the aircraft factory in Thunder Bay, Ontario, building airplanes, later transferring to Toronto to do the same. Don later changed careers to do real estate. They moved onto an acreage, which is now in the suburb of Brampton, which is a suburg of Toronto. Don and Nylene had one son, Cameron in 1951. For many years, until her retirement at age 65, Nylene worked outside the home at many secretarial positions, with her longest employment being record keeping secretary for the Vanier Prison for Women in Toronto. Don and Nylene had 48 happy years of marriage, dancing, playing tennis, ice skating, attending church and being a part of the church board in Brampton. After Don's passing in Toronto on Feb 3, 1987. Nylene held onto her faith and memories and continued to live in Brampton acting as Treasurer for the Senior's Club. For all of those who knew Nylene, you knew she was incredibly hard working and compassionate, and never backed down from a challenge. She loved children. Never having any grandchildren of her own, she informally adopted the children of her son Cameron's friends, as well as her great nieces and nephews to be her very close family. Nylene loved to travel the world and travel she did to Coronach one last time in 2008 to celebrate her 90th birthday with family and friends. When asked hou she was doing she would always say "I can't complain", and you knew she meant it. Nylene was predeceased by her grandparents, Dwight and Betsy (nee Anderson) Day; parents Frank and Dena (nee Hugos) Day; husband Don Welsh; sisters Delia (Bill Wright), Cora (Bernard Bungarden), Ella (Cliff Falkum), Lila (Myron Butler), Arletta (Robert Flynn and second husband Stewart Carnduff), Joyce (Aubrey Sorsdahl); brother Marvin (Emma, nee Fritz) Day; brother and sisters-in-law William "Doc" (Ethel) Welsh; Mervin (Besse) Welsh, and 2 sisters-in-law Beryl (Don Boyd) and Lorraine. Nylene is survived by her son Cameron and his wife Sharon; one sister-in-law Maureen Hill; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held in Brampton, ON at Grace United Church on Sept 12, 2012.
