Notes |
- Joseph was freeman 1672. Representative 1673-1675. Artillery Company 1677, an Assistant 1676 to 1685. He was made President of the Colonies of Massachusetts and New Hampshire 1686. He had visited England in 1682. He was of Andros's Council and made Chief Justice of an unconstitutional Supreme Court, after being long imprisoned there. On the Revolution he went in Feb 1690 to England but came back the same year with commissioner, as Chief Justice of Massachusetts, and was after Deputy Governor of the Isle of Wight under Lord Cutts.
