- William was reared by his uncle and guardian Benjamin Walworth at Bozrah. He first went to Delaware County, NY and later settled at Ovid, Seneca County, NY. He served in the Revolutionary War with the Fourth Regiment, Orange County Militia. He was one of the signers who pledged money to pay for the erection of the monument erected by the inhabitants of Orange County 22 Jul 1822 in memory of 44 of their fellow citizens who fell at the Battle of Minisink 22 Jul 1779.
