- Signed the plantation covenant of 1 Jun 1639; Assistant of New Hampshire colpmy 1643 to 1657; deputy governor 1658; Governor 1661 to 1665; on the union with Conncticut, became an Assistant to 1669, then deputy governor to 1676. when on death of Governor Winthrop, he was chosen to that office, and so by annual elections till his death at Hartford on 16 Apr 1683. He was oftern a Commissioner of the United Colonies of New England from 1655 to 1679. [5]
